hope and aspirations

when I heard that i was randomly picked for the dialogue session, i was grumbling away as usual when i get picked for this kinda activities such as NE quiz, but today, after the dialogue session with Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan Minister of MCYS, i'm really glad that i was one of the lucky sixty seated in the LT. The whole session was a far cry from the boring monologue i presumed it will be, it turned out to be a sharing of personal experiences, real social issues close to our hearts and a successful attempt to awake the our passion asleep in the comfortable lives we lead.

Maybe we need to know about the plights of those who are unfortunate, in our country or across the continent, to remind us of how priviledged we are. Maybe it's through interaction, maybe we need to go through some of the hardships ourselves to better appreciate what we have now.. For me, I read the papers everyday, and everyday, I read about people suffering all over the world, be it natural disasters, food shortages, bombings.. I sympathize with them and eventually came to a point where I concluded that no matter how upset I am about current situations, there's nothing much that I can do to change them..

when i know about the existence of those kids in Calcutta(no, there's more than taxi drivers) brothels, and how they still see the glimmer of hope no matter how diffcult is their living condition.. who am I to say the word "give up"? hope is really the beginning isnt it.. ideals form the world together with realism. and my takeaway from the session.. is that a small difference made each day will eventually come across as a true social change.. a way to really change the world =)

you don't have to donate million or dedicate your whole life to research on energy sources.. a simple involvement like Project Can and reach out to the community directly. (screw flagdays) I don't know about others, but I really enjoy doing CIP like Project Can, cos I know that for every can of food i collect, it goes to a needy. (as for flagdays.. who knows where the money goes to.. ). I shall end off this post with a quote from Jinghui, "you and I, a better future". LOL.

me sorting out the cans =)
